Yiping, co-founder and CEO of FORMAS.AI, has been named to The Peak Singapore's Power List 2026, under the theme "A New Form" — a category recognising leaders who modernise the systems behind their craft rather than abandon it. In her interview with journalist Zat Astha, Yiping explained why FORMAS.AI orchestrates dozens of AI models instead of building a single one, what the AEC industry gets wrong about AI-generated design, and what four companies' worth of founder experience has taught her about staying the course. Here are the key takeaways.
Why Orchestration Beats Another Model
When generative AI first took off, nearly every market incentive pointed toward building a standalone image or rendering tool — that's where the funding and hype were concentrated. FORMAS.AI took the harder route instead: rather than training a single model, the company built an orchestrator that coordinates roughly 60 different AI models across one design pipeline, carrying an idea from a rough sketch to buildable data without losing the designer's intent along the way.
The Real Test Isn't the Render
A photorealistic AI render can look convincing in seconds — the problem, Yiping noted, is that it says nothing about whether the design could actually be built. A striking cantilever or an ethereal facade might not survive a structural review, let alone a typhoon. Closing that gap between how a design looks and whether it works is what FORMAS.AI set out to solve, rather than generating prettier pictures faster.
Keeping Designers in the Loop
Yiping pushed back on the idea that AI-driven design tools exist to replace designers. FORMAS.AI's goal is to remove the repetitive, administrative parts of the job — the software-wrangling and rework — so more of a designer's time goes toward creative and high-judgement decisions only a person can make. As she put it:
"We do not take the designer out of the loop."
Built for the Long Grind
This is Yiping's fourth company, following roles at McKinsey and in the global immersive-experiences industry. She described today's AI market as faster-moving than most people realise, often requiring near-daily strategic pivots, and credits her team's pace to genuine ownership of outcomes rather than hours alone.
A More Democratized Design Future
Yiping's long-term hope is that removing technical friction from design software does for architecture what recent years have done for code — making design accessible to far more people. In her view, design is fundamentally a way of thinking and communicating; once expressing an idea is no longer the hard part, imagination becomes the only real constraint.
